Academic Events | Professor Jimmy W. Mays of Oak Ridge National Laboratory in America Visited College of Materials

On the morning of July 7th, Professor Jimmy W. Mays of University of Tennessee visited Key Laboratory of Advanced Polymers in Shanghai. He gave an excellent academic report entitled Effect of Macromolecular Architecture on Morphology and Mechanical Properties of Block Copolymer.  The lecture was presided over by Professor Jiaping Lin, Executive Vice-Dean of graduate School.  Many teachers and graduate students from college of Materials attended the report.

Professor Mays mainly introduced his group’s research work in recent years on graft copolymer, including precision synthesis, structural characterization of microphase and properties of graft copolymer with more side chains, emphatically introduced the effect of side chain’s number of graft copolymer on microphase structure, as well as the effect of microphase structure on the mechanical property of materials. Professor Mays had developed polymer materials with high performance based on graft copolymers, which had been used in tire and other industries. After the report, Professor Mays answered the questions and ideas raised by the participating teachers and graduate students, and had a heated discussion with them.

Professor Mays is a famous polymer scientist, Distinguished Professor at the University of Tennessee and Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He graduated from Akron University under the tutelage of Professor Fetters.  Professor Mays has served as the editorial board of Macromolecules and several well-known polymer academic journals. He is a member of the American Chemical Society and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and the winner of the Herman Mark Award.  He is mainly engaged in anionic polymerization, design and synthesis of complex polymers and high resolution characterization.  He has published more than 200 papers in Phys. Rev. Lett., J. Am. Chem. Soc., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., Prog. Polym. Sci., Macromolecules and other famous journals.  He was cited more than 3000 times in SCI, and H index is 30.
