Recently, the 2018 soft matter theoretical calculation and simulation academic conference, sponsored by Chinese Chemical Society and organized by East China University of Science and Technology and Polymer Discipline Committee of Chinese Chemical Society, was successfully held in Shanghai Everbright Convention and Exhibition Center. 283 experts, scholars and graduate student delegates engaged in soft matter theory research from 66 universities and research institutions in China attended the conference. Professor Changsheng Liu, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and vice-chancellor of our university, Professor Yuliang Yang, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Professor of Fudan University, Professor Pingwen Zhang, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Professor of Peking University, Professor Wenbing Hu of Nanjing University, Professor Songchao Tang, Party Secretary of school of materials, and other leading experts attended the opening ceremony. The opening ceremony was presided by professorJiaping Lin from school of materials, chairman of the organizing committee.

       At the opening ceremony of the conference, Changsheng Liu pointed out that in recent years, East China University of Science and Technology has seized the construction opportunity of First-class universities and disciplines of the world , integrated resources, optimized the layout, and significantly enhanced the overall strength and influence of the discipline. He hoped that the conference would provide an opportunity for experts and scholars at home and abroad to share and exchange ideas, and jointly promote the innovation and development of soft matter research. Yuliang Yang introduced many cutting-edge scientific issues in soft matter research to the delegates, hoping to attract more young generations to participate in soft matter research and jointly solve a series of scientific problems through academic communication at the conference. Subsequently, Wenbing Hu and Jiaping Lin respectively introduced the development and preparation of the soft matter Theoretical calculation and Simulation academic conference.

      The conference set up 1 main venue and 4 sub-venues, and included 7 conference reports, 38 invitation reports, 63 oral reports and 62 wall reports. Seven internationally renowned scholars in the field of soft matter theory delivered the conference report, which were "Rouse Model for Linear Rheological behavior of Associative polymer systems" by academician Yuliang Yang from Fudan University, "Big-Data-Driven Computational Modeling" by academician Pingwen Zhang from Peking University, Electrostatic Correlations in Polyelectrolyte Solutions by professor Zhengang Wang from California Institute of Technology, Machine-learning Solver for Differential Equations in Polymer Physics by professor Zhengyu Chen from University of Waterloo, Toward Computational Design of Bioadhesives by professor Jianzhong Wu from University of California, Riverside, "Frustration in Block Copolymer Assemblies"by professor Anchang Shi from McMaster University, and "Discontinuous Volume Conserving Deformation in Locally Restrained Thermos-responsive Gels" by professor Masao Doi from Beihang University.

     In the two-day academic conference, the delegates made wonderful reports about the frontier issues of soft matter research, covering theoretical research, simulation calculation methods and applications of polymers and many other aspects. The participants actively communicated and spoke, and the academic discussion atmosphere was enthusiastic. The closing ceremony was presided by professor Zhengang Wang of California Institute of Technology. Wenbing Hu congratulated on the success of the conference and thanked the conference committee and volunteers for their hard work. Jiaping Lin declared the conference closed. The success of the conference reflects the rapid development of materials science in our university, especially in the field of polymer science.
